Epic Fail? :: Marriage Failure

Posted on

Sunday, November 13th

Whether single, married, divorced or somewhere in between, we likely all have strong feelings about the idea of marriage. What is God’s perspective? How do we find hope a midst our relational challenges and failures?

Work through the following Scriptures and questions on your own, and get together with your running partner, Life Group or friends and family to talk through what you’re learning!

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. What’s your perspective on marriage right now? Something you long for? Something that’s difficult? Something not worth the possible pain or disappointed? Something else?
  2. What would you say is the ultimate purpose of marriage?
  3. Look at the story of Hosea (particularly chapters 1-3) and Ephesians 5:31-32. What do you see as God’s perspective on marriage? How do you think He relates to your relational challenges and failures?
  4. In Hosea 2:13-16, God promises to speak tenderly to His “bride” and win back her love. What can you learn from His example about how to respond when the ones you love disappoint or even betray you?
  5. How can you recognize and change your attitude when you fall into the kind of thinking that says, “everything will be better if the other person in the relationship changes”?
  6. How does honoring your spouse, or any important relationship, help us grow our relationship with God?
  7. How can you hold onto hope in God whether your longing to be married, struggling in your marriage or disillusioned by marriage in your present circumstances?
